John Henry must feel vindicated. On November 23rd, he said that Yushchenko's acne was consistent with dioxin poisoning, and today the doctors at Rudolfinerhaus in Vienna confirmed that they found way too much dioxin in Yushchenko's blood and tissue. He's been poisoned by a "third party," who obviously doesn't know enough about toxicology to use a less traceable toxin.
You'd think poisoning went out of fashion as a political tool with Rasputin (who was eventually shot to death), but there obviously are some people who favor it. Of course, there are Palestinians who believe that Arafat was poisoned by the Israelis, and so it happens that Arafat's nephew Nasir al-Quidwa (who by strange coincidence having nothing to do with nepotism is the PA's "observer" at the United Nations) released all relevant medical records to Palestinian leaders.
Some Palestinians are hopeful that Arafat was poisoned, as this would elevate him to martyrdom the way he had always hoped.
This all feeds one of those intractable conspiracy theories that goes something like this:
If the Israelis poisoned Arafat, they would obviously use poison that would make the late terrorist's death look like a natural death. So even if (or maybe especially if) the French doctors categorically reject poisoning as a cause of death, that would only show how devious those Jews Zionists Israelis are. And if it turns out that medical records show that he died of, say, AIDS or cirhossis of the liver, then that will only prove that the Israelis not only killed him but wanted to humiliate him. Any explanation will do except one that proves what a despicable character Arafat was.
